SOCCER KNIGHTS GO TO 3-0 WITH 4-1 WIN AT JC

 

NORTH VERNON - Aided by two penalty kick goals, South Dearborn boys varsity soccer extended its season-opening win streak to 3-0 with a 4-1 victory at Jennings County Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Coach Michael Wallace's Knights answered with four-straight scores after the host Panthers (0-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead to start the contest on a goal by freshman Carson McNulty, assisted by junior Keagan Craig.

Junior Lakota Carter evened the contest at 1-1 early in the first 40 minutes, converted the PK after being fouled in the penalty box area.

AURORA - Madison Cubs football - the basis for a heart-wrenching New York Times feature last March that chronicled how last year's team helped the city cope with teen drug addiction and a suicide rate three times the national average - clearly is about more than just Xs and Os.

Although the high school team - which hosts South Dearborn Friday as both vie for their first win of the season - has had just one winning season since 1994, Coach Patric Morrison's squad isn't defined merely by wins and losses.

She shot 87 (42-45) to finish seventh, following a 94 at the Greensburg Invitational Aug. 13. Lady Trojans have 14 on their 2018 roster, including (not pictured) senior Maddie Faller, junior Bianca Fliehman, sophomore Natalie Schnell and freshmen Maria Deddens, Autumn Bruns, Emma Ravenna, Emma Gutfreund and Ryan Lay.

EC SPIKERS CRUISE TO 3-0 WIN VS. KNIGHTS

 

ST. LEON - East Central volleyball moved to 2-0 on both the regular season and in Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference play, cruising to a 3-0 win over visiting South Dearborn Thursday, Aug. 16.

Varsity Lady Trojans posted game scores of 25-6, 25-17, 25-12 behind 13 kills on a perfect 18-18 attacking by returning conference MVP Mack Ewing.

"It was a good game for us," said EC head coach Cassie Laker. "The girls played hard and were willing to take risks and try new things we had been working on at practice the night before.

HUBER HAT TRICK HEADS SD IN 4-3 THRILLER

 

South Dearborn junior Erin Huber (1), pictured in last year's Class 2A sectional against Batesville, opened the Lady Knights' 2018 season Wednesday with a three-goal hat trick in a 4-3 win over Boone County (Ky.).

 

AURORA - Junior Erin Huber scored a three-goal hat trick to set the stage for senior Ashley Bishop's game-winner as South Dearborn girls soccer opened its season with a 4-3 nailbiter win over Boone County (Ky.) Wednesday.

AURORA - Two teams vying to return to football relevance will butt heads in Friday night's 2018 season opener at South Dearborn.

GRID SCRIMMAGES FRIDAY FOR COUNTY TEAMS

 

All three Dearborn County high school football teams will get dress rehearsals for their 2018 season openers this coming Friday night.

• Defending Class 4A state champion East Central will unveil its new artificial turf surface at Trojan Field in St. Leon to the general public for the first time when it hosts New Albany in controlled scrimmage action at 7 p.m.

• Lawrenceburg's Tigers take to the road to meet New Castle Chrysler in a 7:30 p.m. scrimmage at Huffman Field in Henry County.

KNIGHTS OPEN GOLF SEPT. 16 AT DEARBORN

 

 

AURORA - South Dearborn High School's Knights Open golf fund-raiser is set for Sunday, Sept. 16, at Dearborn Country Club.

Entry fee is $60 per person or $240 for a four-person team and includes greens fees, carts, skins, dinner, beverages and awards.
