SIRC-IT LAKESIDE 5K SATURDAY AT BROOKVILLE

BROOKVILLE - The 2018 Southeast Indiana Racing Circuit (SIRC-it) hits its third leg in the series Saturday, July 21, with the Lakeside 5K Run & Walk at Franklin County High School.

A benefit for the FCHS Wildcats cross country team, as are all five SIRC-it series races, the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) event starts at 8:30 a.m. at the high school, 1 Wildcat Lane, and also finishes there.

Lakeside's out-and-back course that offers a spectacular view of the Brookville Lake and the town of Brookville.

WILKERSON REPLACES BROWN AT SHAWE

MADISON — Former Jeffersonville and Indiana University basketball star Sherron Wilkerson was named the new boys varsity coach at Madison Shawe Monday, July 9.

The Shawe position came open less than a month prior, when former South Dearborn coach Mike Brown left after one season to take over at Salem, following the retirement of coach Hank Weedin.

Wilkerson is an environmental manager at Vehicle Service Group in Madison, located about five minutes from Shawe’s campus.

SD GIRLS GOLF PRACTICE OPENS JULY 30

AURORA - South Dearborn High School girls varsity golf practice for the 2018 fall season opens on the first allowable date by the IHSAA, Monday, July 30.

Players should bring clubs and report to Dearborn Country Club at 10 a.m. Physical exam and parent consent forms must be complete and on file before players will be allowed to participate.

INDIANAPOLIS - East Central High School graduate Justin Brown is on the roster for the 52nd annual Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game tonight (Friday) at Indianapolis North Central.

Brown, a 6'5", 220-pound tight end for the 2017 Class 4A state champion Trojans, will be a member of the South All-Star squad, under head coach Andy Owen of Evansville Central.

SOUTH BEND - Lawrenceburg graduate Eli Helton has been named to the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association's South All-Star team for the 2018 North-South Series July 20-22.

Indiana University Southeast signee Helton was a first team Class 3A All-State selection by the coaches' association a week earlier, and was voted Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player by league coaches in June.

East Central softball regained its rightful spot atop the conference standings, with healthy contributions from four talented freshmen, as Dearborn County’s fast-pitch game possibly entered a new era this past spring.

Register Publications’ 2018 All-County softball team honors another eventful campaign by honoring 21 players, including 17 first-team selections and four honorable mentions, comprised of nine EC Lady Trojans, seven South Dearborn Lady Knights and five Lady Tigers from Lawrenceburg.
