BRANSON, Mo. - Two local girls were part of the Indiana Magic Gold team that finished runner-up in the USSSA 9 & Under Girls’ Fast Pitch Softball Midwest National Tournament July 9-14.

SIRC-IT'S KNIGHT FLIGHT 5K SATURDAY

 

AURORA - The 15th annual Knight Flight 5K Run and Walk brings the fourth leg of the 2018 Southeast Indiana Racing Circuit series to downtown Aurora Saturday morning, July 28.

A benefit for the South Dearborn High School cross country team, as are all five SIRC-it series races, the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) event starts at 8:30 a.m. in front of series sponsor Weber Sports, 238 Main St., at the corner of Third and Main.

LAWRENCEBURG - Tyler Courtney withstood racelong challenges to his throne throughout Sunday’s second round NOS Energy Drink Indiana Sprint Week feature at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

The Indianapoli native went on to score his series-leading sixth win of the year and his second career ISW win.

Former Franklin County and Indiana State University distance-running standout Jeremiah Vaughn (right) outkicked two-time SIRC-it series winner Ean Loichiger, 14, of Batesville, to win Saturday's Lakeside 5K Run overall title in 16:30 at Brookville.

 

BROOKVILLE - Saturday’s Southeast Indiana Racing Circuit Lakeside 5K Run/Walk got a big break from rain that saturated the area all weekend and saw a sprint to the finish for the win.

Long before he capped his senior year with conference MVP, first team All-State and Indiana All-Star honors, Lawrenceburg baseball’s Eli Helton was a mortal lock for Dearborn County Player of the Year.

The 6’3” slugger (.461, 6 home runs, 33 RBI) and right-handed pitcher for the 21-9 Tigers - who’ll play his last high school innings for the South All-Stars this weekend at South Bend, before heading off to IU Southeast this fall - clearly was the top talent in the county, conference and region.

LAWRENCEBURG - Everybody knew that following a banner 31-2 season in 2017 would be a hard act to pull off for Lawrenceburg High School baseball this spring.

But Coach Nick Tremain's Tigers, behind the conference Most Valuable Player and first team All-State contributions of senior Eli Helton, didn't do badly for themselves.

BROWN SOUTH ALL-STAR IN 27-24 CONTEST

INDIANAPOLIS - East Central High School graduate Justin Brown took part in the 52nd annual Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game tonight (Friday) at Indianapolis North Central.

Brown, a 6'5", 220-pound tight end for the 2017 Class 4A state champion Trojans, was a member of the South All-Star squad, under head coach Andy Owen of Evansville Central.

He committed last February to attend Marian University in Indianapolis. Son of Doug and Sloane Brown, Justin plans to major in Business/Marketing at the NAIA member school.

TIGER FISHING CLUB 2ND IN SAF STATE FINALS
