BALLOU REPEATS IN GAINES MEMORIAL

LAWRENCEBURG - Rocklin, California’s Robert Ballou made a last-corner pass on the outside of Jarrett Andretti to win the 15th running of the Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Running in only his second Gaines Memorial in the No. 12 car, Ballou became the first repeat winner in the event's history at Lawrenceburg.

Nick Bilbee took the green flag from the pole position and stretched the lead out to several car lengths over the rest of the field.

MOORES HILL - Lawrenceburg's Hannah Morgan became the first Tigers individual runner to win a cross country meet in some time as South Dearborn cross country unveiled its new varsity course at Moores Hill Wednesday, Aug. 15.

EC SPIKERS CRUISE TO 3-0 WIN VS. KNIGHTS

 

ST. LEON - East Central volleyball moved to 2-0 on both the regular season and in Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference play, cruising to a 3-0 win over visiting South Dearborn Thursday, Aug. 16.

Varsity Lady Trojans posted game scores of 25-6, 25-17, 25-12 behind 13 kills on a perfect 18-18 attacking by returning conference MVP Mack Ewing.

"It was a good game for us," said EC head coach Cassie Laker. "The girls played hard and were willing to take risks and try new things we had been working on at practice the night before.

TIGER SPIKERS SERVE UP OPENING EIAC WIN

 

LAWRENCEBURG - Lawrenceburg's volleyball varsity went the distance for a season-opening conference win over visiting Connersville Wednesday night, Aug. 15, 3-2.

Lady Tigers ultimately prevailed 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13, led by a big 21 kills from freshman Cora Taylor, playing her first varsity match.

LAWRENCEBURG - In a season-opening battle of state-ranked boys varsity soccer teams Tuesday, Aug. 14, Lawrenceburg's Jason Goepper tied the contest 1-1 on a picturesque head ball goal, off the long cross from Max Reinshagen, at 13:22 in the second half.

SPANGLER BOOTS WINNER FOR EC MEN

 

ST. LEON - Senior Evan Spangler scored the game-winning goal in front of a capacity home crowd as East Central boys varsity soccer notched a 3-2 victory over Seymour in its season opener Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Tied 1-1 at halftime, Coach BJ Black's Trojans made their 2018 debut a successful one, despite injuries and other factors that forced many of the starters to play 75-80 minutes.

Junior midfielder Colden Whitt got EC scoring untracked with a first-half goal, assisted by sophomore Brady Spangler.
