ST. LEON - Senior Evan Spangler scored the game-winning goal in front of a capacity home crowd as East Central boys varsity soccer notched a 3-2 victory over Seymour in its season opener Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Tied 1-1 at halftime, Coach BJ Black's Trojans made their 2018 debut a successful one, despite injuries and other factors that forced many of the starters to play 75-80 minutes.

Junior midfielder Colden Whitt got EC scoring untracked with a first-half goal, assisted by sophomore Brady Spangler.

Seymour's Owls battled back to knot the contest at 1-1 at intermission, but Trojan senior captain Jared Tiemann put the home team ahead again with a penalty kick goal in the second half.

Evan Spangler's game-winner came in the late minutes, off the assist by senior forward Kameron Siebert.

East Central outshot the Owls by an 18-13 margin, including 8-5 in shots on frame. Sophomore goalkeeper Landen Weis played well in his first varsity start between the pipes.

EC's junior varsity scored a 4-0 win over Seymour in the preliminary contest Wednesday.

Trojan men's soccer heads to the Greenfield-Central Invitational for two games Saturday, taking on Richmond in the 5 p.m. opener and host Greenfield at 8 p.m.
