Melodie Jane Lutherbeck Keith, 61, Lawrenceburg, Ind., passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2018.

She was born April 18, 1957, in Milan, Ind., daughter of the late Gerald and Marilyn (Tibbs) Lutherbeck. Melodie was a member of New Life Southern Baptist Church.

William Blackburn

Captain William F. Blackburn, 84, of Greendale, Ind., passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. He was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Crittenden, Ky., son of the late Lee Blackburn and the late Sarah Evans.

William retired from the Air Force as a Captain after 29 years. He got wo bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree while in the military. He then went on to work for the United States Postal Service retiring at the age of 80.

Betty Miller

Betty Jane Miller, 85, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018.

She was born Aug. 22, 1932, in Saint Louis, Mo., daughter of the late John Watson Wyland and the late Mildred Cecelia (Harrison) Murphy.

Betty was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She liked to read and she enjoyed crafts. She worked as a Cashier at WalMart.

United Way headed to Dearborn County during community tour

United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s new President and CEO Michael Johnson is going out into the community to launch United Way’s annual fall campaign with a new series of events aimed at raising the awareness of poverty’s impact on our region.

Replacing the traditional one-day kickoff event, these “Community United” events include an initial 10-stop tour to communities in each of the 10 counties United Way serves.

Apply for park deer reduction hunts

Indiana State Parks is seeking volunteer hunters to participate in managed deer reduction hunts at 19 locations later this year.
Applications must be received by Aug. 20.
Properties where hunting is allowed with firearms only (any firearm legal to take deer on public land in Indiana) are: Brown County, Chain O’Lakes, Harmonie, Indiana Dunes, Lincoln, Ouabache, Potato Creek, Prophetstown, Shades, Shakamak, Summit Lake, Tippecanoe River, Turkey Run, Versailles, and Whitewater Memorial state parks, and Cave River Valley Natural Area.

LAWRENCEBURG - Defense was the name of the game as Lawrenceburg girls varsity soccer shut out visiting Oldenburg Academy 2-0 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night at Dick Meador Stadium.

LAWRENCEBURG - Lawrenceburg Speedway host the Dick Gaines Memorial feature, with racing in all four car classes, this Saturday night, Aug. 18.

It’s also 47025 Zip Code Night at the Speedway, with any resident of the 47025 zip code area presenting a valid driver’s license at the front gate receiving free general admission - for adults as well as kids.

Saturday’s racing card will feature Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints, Budweiser UMP Modifieds, Impact Sports Pure Stocks and Bessler's U Pull & Save Hornets.
