LAWRENCEBURG - In a season-opening battle of state-ranked boys varsity soccer teams Tuesday, Aug. 14, Lawrenceburg's Jason Goepper tied the contest 1-1 on a picturesque head ball goal, off the long cross from Max Reinshagen, at 13:22 in the second half.

ST. LEON - Senior Evan Spangler scored the game-winning goal in front of a capacity home crowd as East Central boys varsity soccer notched a 3-2 victory over Seymour in its season opener Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Tied 1-1 at halftime, Coach BJ Black's Trojans made their 2018 debut a successful one, despite injuries and other factors that forced many of the starters to play 75-80 minutes.

Junior midfielder Colden Whitt got EC scoring untracked with a first-half goal, assisted by sophomore Brady Spangler.

REMC customers helping community by rounding up

The Town of Dillsboro recently received a generous gift from the REMC Operation Roundup, said Dillsboro Economic Director Susan Greco.

The Round-Up grants will be used to place an interior/exterior sound system at Friendship Gallery and Heritage Pointe park, to purchase a water craft for ice and water rescue, and to construct a shelter to protect the town’s Legacy Project Well No. 2.
